hi Lightfootians,
January is already nearing a close and I hope you are all staying true to your new years resolutions. I want to quickly tell you my story about lightfoot before diving into the updates. I started lightfoot, in part, as a new years resolution. A lot of things were happening in my life at the time - I was busy working a demanding job, going to the gym, and managing my relationship. I had always wanted to do something for the climate, but I was way too busy to do commit to anything I thought could have a material impact. A guilty reminder sat in my mind for a while and eventually I got fed up with it. I started my research as part of a new years resolution: figure out the simplest and most practical way to offset my carbon footprint. I found that most of the tools out there really sucked. Also, most things required commitments I couldn’t afford to make (diet & lifestyle). I also found that the research kept bumming me out. I found that most companies’ sales pitch to get you to use eco-friendly products is some version of: climate change is really bad, here are some shocking images/reminders of how bad it is. Now use our product. I never really connected with this. As I went further into the rabbit hole I felt lonelier and gloomier… “Was there such a thing as a positive climate story?”, I asked myself. As I was venting to a friend, I noticed she resonated with this too. I realized that I wasn’t alone. My friend had experienced some version of this herself, but ultimately never did anything about it. I stepped back and realized, more broadly, that this must be the one thing we all have in common: we’re tired of being told how bad things are and being offered no solutions. And that what would make way more sense is an actual solution we can get excited about. So, I resolved to expand my new years resolution to share this experience and build lightfoot. Here we are, over 1 year later.
Things that are going well:
I started using Reels on Instagram, and let me tell you… they ROCK. I’ve been getting fantastic engagement on fairly lighthearted content. I plan to really utilize this as a way to increase my presence online.
This is the 3rd week in a row that I keep the newsletter updated.
I made some great connections with local partners in Toronto that offer eco-minded products. I am hoping to cement some partnerships with them and offer you all free stuff. They are also quite excited to be working with us :)
Where I need your help:
We are just starting out and your feedback is greatly appreciated. More specifically, what I care about is building a genuine connection with you all.
This week:
Working on some more social media content.
Finishing up a product demo video.
Finishing up the final sprint of our development & launching sometime in the next couple weeks.
I know by now you are probably all anxious to see the final product. I have been trying super hard to make it as good as possible before it gets to you so you can enjoy it as much as possible. Keep you posted.
Stay safe out there.
Adam
